Summer Holidays in North Wales: Family Life and Photography

The summer holidays are here, and as any parent will know, the school break is anything but a “holiday.” Keeping children entertained takes planning and energy, but living in North Wales makes it a little easier. This year the weather has been kind, giving us plenty of sunny days to get outdoors—although it has been less welcome for local farmers who rely on the rain.

While family life has been at the forefront, photography in North Wales hasn’t completely stopped. I’ve managed some studio work and taken time to revisit parts of Snowdonia National Park that I haven’t explored in years. Returning to these landscapes reminded me of just how lucky I am to have lived in North Wales for over 30 years, with some of the UK’s most dramatic scenery right on the doorstep.

Looking ahead, I’ve got new photography projects in North Wales lined up, and I’m especially excited about the chance to capture the Milky Way over Snowdonia when the skies clear. North Wales is known for its incredible dark sky locations, making it one of the best places in the UK for astrophotography.

For now, summer continues to be a balance of family days out, quiet studio sessions, and seizing those moments when the light is just right. If you’re visiting North Wales this summer, whether for a family holiday or photography adventure, the landscapes here are as inspiring as ever.
